Founded in 2005 by MIT engineer Limor “Ladyada” Fried, Adafruit Industries designs and manufactures electronics and learning tools for makers from its New York City factory. The 100% woman-owned company has grown to more than 100 employees and produces many of its own circuit boards in-house, from PCB design and assembly through testing, while also developing open-source projects such as CircuitPython and the Feather platform.
