Alterra Energy operates a commercial-scale plastic circularity facility in Akron, Ohio, converting hard-to-recycle post-use plastics into reusable raw materials for new products. Commissioned in 2020, its 60-ton-per-day plant is described as the only full-scale, continuous facility of its kind, using a patented thermochemical process and licensing that technology globally. The company says it has recycled millions of pounds of discarded plastic while working to keep material out of landfills and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

• PolyKinetix IncPolyKinetix Inc designs, builds, operates, and licenses continuous chemical-recycling technology that converts non-recyclable plastics and end-of-life tires into petrochemical and lubricant precursors. The second-generation recycling company is also expanding polystyrene recycling operations, including recycled construction-grade EPS foam panels made in Massillon, Ohio. Its modular, scalable systems are intended to provide an alternative to landfilling, burning, and open dumping while returning waste materials to established markets.CANTON, OH

• PureCycle Technologies, IncPureCycle Technologies turns discarded No. 5 polypropylene into ultra-pure recycled resin using a patented dissolution process licensed from Procter & Gamble. Its PureFive® material is designed to perform like virgin polypropylene, while its first purification facility in Ironton, Ohio, began producing pellets in 2023. The company also extends that closed-loop approach through PureZero™, a program that collects event and workplace plastic for reuse in new products.IRONTON, OH
