Founded in 1979 by naval architect John Palmer, Autometrix builds automated precision cutting systems and the software that turns physical patterns into digital designs for industrial-fabric manufacturers. The Grass Valley company remains family-led by Palmer’s son, Jonathan, and controls both its hardware and software, a model reflected in its PatternSmith platform and custom-integrated cutting tables. Its history includes the first 3D sail-design software and more than 40 years developing equipment for materials ranging from marine fabrics to carbon fiber and leather.
