Clearweld, manufactured by Crysta-Lyn Chemical Company in Upstate New York, makes near-infrared absorbing coatings and resin additives that enable laser welding of clear and other infrared-transparent plastics. Crysta-Lyn acquired the exclusive license to manufacture and distribute Clearweld from Gentex in 2011, building on a specialty-chemical business founded in 1992. Its 900 series coatings have been tested to USP Class VI standards and for biomedical applications, while the company continues developing formulations for specialized uses.
