Fresh Forward Farms is a family farm cooperative that brings locally grown apples and other fresh-market produce from independent Great Lakes growers to retailers and families. Formerly Ohio Apples, managed by the Fruit Growers Marketing Association, it connects multi-generational family farms with broader markets while supporting the communities and land where they operate. The cooperative also produces locally pressed Ohio apple cider through its Ohio Cider Company label.

• Knouse FoodsFounded in 1949, Knouse Foods is a grower-owned cooperative rooted in more than 100 family farms across the Appalachian growing region. Based near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, it has grown into a 1,000-employee operation with three manufacturing plants, carrying its farmers’ fruit from orchard to table for customers across the country.   Dries Orchards IncFamily-owned since the 1950s, Dries Orchards grows fruit on more than 150 acres in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, with apples at the heart of the orchard. The farm also presses its own cider in-house, including apple and cranberry apple varieties, and welcomes shoppers to its retail store for seasonal farm-grown produce and locally sourced goods. Dries supports the surrounding community through donations and practical sustainability efforts, including water-saving irrigation and reuse of apple pomace as cattle feed.PAXINOS, PA

• Way Fruit FarmSixth-generation family-owned Way Fruit Farm has been part of Centre County’s agricultural community since 1826, growing from an orchard planted with a wedding gift of 1,000 apple trees in 1872. Today, Jason and Megan Coopey run the Halfmoon Valley farm, whose harvest reaches neighbors through its farm store and café while its seasonal events keep the property a gathering place.
