Founded by Jimmy Rane in 1970, Great Southern Wood Preserving began with a small Alabama treatment plant and grew into a wood-products company operating 16 treatment facilities. It is best known for the YellaWood brand of pressure-treated pine and also makes fire-retardant-treated wood and custom industrial packaging. Its business has expanded to include sawmilling, custom packaging manufacturing, material import and export, building-product distribution, and logistics.
