Founded in 1949 by immigrant rainwear maker Salo Gutfreund, Gruner & Co. designs and manufactures outerwear, rainwear and overcoats for its own brands, private-label customers and uniform programs. The Gutfreund family’s German rubberized-rainwear heritage has carried through three generations, with the company now led by Salo’s daughter Barbara’s husband Harvey Arfa and daughter Caroline Massel.
