Burch Wood CraftingVeteran-owned Burch Wood Crafting hand-builds functional wooden pieces and custom furniture, turning customer ideas into items made for everyday use. Josh founded the shop in 2024 after discovering woodworking through a 2021 connection with German woodworker Florian Koch, and works directly with customers from design through delivery. Its work ranges from personalized kitchen pieces to one-of-a-kind tables and distinctive custom art, including a large Maryland-themed crab.
Smith Custom WoodworksFounded by wood artisan Derald Smith, Smith Custom Woodworks is a small, family-owned Baltimore shop that handcrafts solid-wood furniture, cabinetry, home décor and kitchen goods. Its made-to-order work is built from carefully selected hardwoods, including lumber sourced from family-owned sawmills in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and shaped through patient milling, traditional joinery and hand-applied finishes. The shop is also known for distinctive wooden doorbell chime covers and collapsible mobile event carts, alongside custom pieces designed around a customer’s space and ideas.
Canterbury Woods CreationsAfter leaving a 12-year technology career, founder Francis Twomey turned an oak bed made for his new upstate New York home into Canterbury Woods Creations, a woodworking studio making handmade furniture and custom commissions. Working primarily with domestic hardwoods, Twomey builds one-of-a-kind pieces around a client’s dimensions, space, and ideas rather than producing for quantity. The family’s J&J Twomey Collection adds handmade boards and trays crafted by his parents, with a tree planted and a portion of proceeds donated to the American Heart Association for each board or tray sold.VESTAL, NY
