The company preserves rare hand-loom techniques alongside newer looms, enabling it to recreate historic textiles and develop bespoke fabrics for distinctive interiors. JonasTracing its American roots to Austrian-trained upholsterer Samuel Langer, Jonas handcrafts custom upholstered furniture and curtains in its Manhattan workroom for the design trade. Now carried on by Langer’s descendants through Steven Jonas and Charles Berlin, the atelier preserves 19th-century methods, including hand-tied springs and hand-stitched horsehair, in pieces made for lasting use. Magdalene BespokeOpened in New York in 1993, Magdalene Bespoke is a full-service custom furnishings manufacturer creating made-to-measure interiors, from upholstered furniture to drapery and custom beds. Founder Magdalene trained in ateliers in London and Paris, building on the exacting fabric and stitching lessons passed down by her mother, who worked in Elsa Schiaparelli’s Paris atelier from the late 1940s to 1951. That lineage informs a workroom known for patient craftsmanship and finely finished details, including custom embroidery and restorations of classic pieces.
