Founded in 1994 as a scrap-metal trading business, ProTrade Steel has grown into a fully integrated company that brokers, processes, transports and exports ferrous and nonferrous scrap. Its Eastern U.S. operation combines four trading offices, two RJ Recycling facilities and a transportation division with more than 300 private railcars, connecting suppliers with domestic mills, foundries and buyers around the world. In 2025, ProTrade transferred full ownership to its employees through an ESOP, adding a shared-ownership model to a business led by a second generation of the Kessick family.
