Nebraska startup Quantum Qool develops patented ultrafast laser surface structuring and production laser stations that improve heat dissipation in components for spacecraft, hypersonic vehicles and power electronics. Its femtosecond “cold processing” creates micro- and nanostructures that increase surface area and emissivity without the heat-affected zones associated with longer-pulse machining. The technology was developed by co-founder and CTO Victor A. Rivas, whose prior work includes material technologies with NASA and the U.S. Department of Energy.
