Since 1925, Scottdale’s privately owned R.E. Uptegraff Manufacturing Company has built conventional and specially engineered transformers for industrial and utility customers, from 10 to 15,000 kVA. The company remains a custom engineered-to-order shop, pairing its 42-employee operation and 70,000-square-foot Pennsylvania facility with repair and refurbishment work on transformers of any make. Its history includes pioneering aluminum-wound transformers in 1966 and three generations of Uptegraff family ownership before the business became privately owned under different structure in 2014.
