SafeAwake, LLC makes U.S.-made fire-safety notification devices that recognize a residential smoke alarm and wake sleeping people through an intermittent bed shaker, low-frequency sounder and flashing light. Developed through a Small Business Innovation Research award for deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, its technology was validated in sleep studies at Johns Hopkins-affiliated laboratories and is also designed for people of all hearing abilities. The Columbia, Maryland company’s device carries UL 217 and UL 1971 approval and includes battery backup for power outages.
