2019

Founded in 2019 as a spinout of superconducting-electronics company Hypres, SEEQC develops quantum-computing processors that integrate quantum circuits and classical control electronics on a single cryogenic chip. Based in Elmsford with facilities in London and Naples, the company also operates a commercial superconducting IC foundry that has fabricated more than 5,000 chip designs. Its System-on-Chip architecture is intended to reduce the cabling, latency, energy use, and complexity that make quantum systems difficult to scale.

• EI
EIQCEIQC is a professional research organization exploring quantum systems and unconventional computing architectures, from experimental qubit hardware to neuromorphic and photonic processors. Its work spans fault-tolerant quantum computing, beyond-classical algorithms, and post-quantum cryptography, with active projects including control systems for 127-plus-qubit processors and real-time quantum error-correction decoding. EIQC collaborates with academic institutions, national laboratories, and industry on emerging approaches to computation.COLUMBIA, MD
• QC82College Park-based QC82 is developing room-temperature photonic quantum computers for large-scale simulations in chemistry and materials science. Its approach combines proprietary photon-detection technology with low-loss, mass-manufacturable photonic chip designs, aiming to move quantum computing from laboratory systems toward practical industrial infrastructure. The company’s work is supported by a growing portfolio of more than 14 patents and collaboration with University of Virginia co-founders.COLLEGE PARK, MD
• IonQ, IncIonQ grew from more than 30 years of academic research and trapped-ion breakthroughs at the University of Maryland and Duke University before Dr. Chris Monroe and Dr. Jungsang Kim founded the company in 2015. Based in College Park, Maryland, it develops commercial quantum computers and helps organizations apply them to difficult computational problems through cloud access and support from quantum scientists.COLLEGE PARK, MD
• Geminatio, IncFounded in 2021, Schenectady-based Geminatio develops semiconductor materials and lithography infrastructure aimed at enabling lower-cost paths to integrated-circuit shrink. The venture brings together specialists in advanced photolithography and resolution enhancement, including co-founder Jim Wiley, who previously led EUV and high-NA EUV infrastructure strategy at ASML and built Brion Technologies’ computational-lithography business. Its technical team combines experience in polymer chemistry, EUV photoresists, process integration, and high-volume semiconductor manufacturing.SCHENECTADY, NY
