Founded by Vittorio Bertazzoni Sr. in Guastalla in 1948, Smeg makes household appliances that pair Italian design with everyday cooking, cleaning and food-preservation technology. Its five Italian production plants develop products through certified laboratories, while collaborations with designers and architects have helped make its colourful Fifties-style refrigerators and other appliances distinctive design objects. The Smeg Group employs around 2,500 people and also develops professional foodservice equipment and instruments for hospitals and laboratories.
