Starris, the space-systems unit of precision-optics maker Optimax, builds compact electro-optical and infrared payloads for small satellites and responsive space missions. Its work centers on a patented monolithic-telescope design developed with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, adapted into modular systems for space-domain awareness, in-space operations, and proliferated ISR. The Ontario, New York company draws on three decades of space-qualified innovation and a manufacturing ecosystem designed to scale optical payload production.

Optec, IncSince 1979, Lowell-based Optec, Inc. has designed and manufactured electro-optical equipment that helps astronomers and astrophotographers capture better images. The small firm also develops solutions for atmospheric science and microscopy, pairing specialized products with software support for astronomy users around the world.ABINGDON, MD
Photon Gear, IncFor two decades, Photon Gear has built high-precision custom optical systems, taking difficult designs from optical engineering through prototype and production lens assembly. Its small, flexible team pairs complex lens design with a specialized clean facility and multi-wavelength testing spanning deep UV to mid-IR. Led by optical experts Gary Blough and John Bowen, the Ontario, New York company is also registered for ITAR-controlled work.ONTARIO, NY
Optics Technology, IncOptics Technology, Inc. was established in 1986 by optical engineer Jim Anderson, whose vision was to tackle unusually demanding miniature optical work with the flexibility to make new tools when needed. The Pittsford company designs and builds precision micro-optical systems for customers ranging from university research centers to NASA and global enterprises, often taking projects from prototype to small- or medium-volume production. Its work has included a miniature aerospace shutter and a government surveillance lens assembled entirely in-house.PITTSFORD, NY
ArgotecFounded in Turin by David Avino in 2008, Argotec designs, builds and operates small satellites for Earth orbit and deep-space missions, while also developing human-spaceflight solutions and related space services. Its SpacePark headquarters in San Mauro Torinese is an in-house satellite factory spanning more than 11,000 square meters, with capacity for over 50 satellites a year. Argotec’s LICIACube and ArgoMoon missions carried its microsatellites into deep space, and its ISSpresso project brought the first coffee machine to the International Space Station.LARGO, MD
