Founded in 1982 by Caryl A. Schaefer, Storage Control Systems manufactures atmosphere-modifying and monitoring equipment for controlled-atmosphere fruit and vegetable storage. Now led by his son James C. Schaefer, the Michigan-based company designs and builds its equipment in-house, including custom systems for individual applications. Its several hundred installations span North America and markets around the world, with a specialty in tightly sealed storage environments and the controls that manage them.
