Founded in 1902 as a pattern shop, Willoughby-based AC Wellman now makes X-ray markers and measuring devices while also producing and restoring custom plaques and pattern letters. Its century-plus history runs from white-metal foundry letters to in-house medical-device manufacturing, and the company says it is the world’s largest supplier of X-ray markers. AC Wellman’s plaque work includes preserving historic markers such as those at Wabash College and a 1923 John Tullis memorial.
