Founded in 2020 by four MIT PhD alumni, Amogy is known for turning ammonia into usable electricity for industries where conventional electrification is difficult. Its patented cracking technology has been proven in demanding settings, including a 2022 tractor demonstration and the retrofit of the NH3 Kraken, a 1957 tugboat that became the world’s first carbon-free ammonia-powered vessel. The company now operates ATHENA, a Houston testing and manufacturing facility opened in 2025 as it moves from demonstrations toward commercial deployment.
