Founded by trucking-company operator Brian Fabian, Pensacola-based BrixRae Limited is developing a patent-pending hybrid electric–steam powertrain for Class 8 trucks. Its zero-emission steam engine is intended to provide primary propulsion while onboard batteries, energy recovery and auxiliary generation support long-haul operation without routine public charging. BrixRae has completed the platform’s primary engineering and CAD work and is moving toward prototype testing and installation in a Class 8 truck.
QuickLoadzBorn from engineer Sean Jones’s frustration with moving containers at his Ohio construction company in 2002, QuickLoadz builds automated truck beds and trailers that load, move, and secure ISO shipping containers. Its Athens operation also assembles battery-electric vocational trucks in the United States, with a 47,000-square-foot facility designed for production at scale. Founded by inventor Douglas Pelmear, the company’s flagship system combines variable displacement with electromagnetic pulse power and has been tested in a Mustang at roughly 110 miles per gallon on E85 while retaining 400 horsepower.
