Founded in 2015, Cardinal Woodworking turns reclaimed old-growth timber and family furniture into custom wood pieces, including heritage tables and other furniture made for a particular home. The craft grows from a family tradition: the owner learned woodworking, joinery and furniture building by watching a grandfather build boats and a father work in his garage shop. Cardinal’s specialty is giving damaged or outdated heirlooms a new, functional life while preserving the memories they carry.
Upstate Crafts WoodworkingAt its Verona, New York shop, Upstate Crafts Woodworking turns locally sourced hardwoods and reclaimed timbers into one-of-a-kind custom furniture and small wood goods. Cherry AcresCherry Acres turns reclaimed barn wood and live-edge slabs into custom furniture at its downtown Lititz showroom. The business grew from Lancaster County builder Craig Wolf’s habit of salvaging lumber from old buildings and hand-crafting pieces for local shows, and it now works with Pennsylvania Amish craftsmen on distinctive furniture such as Dutch-inspired shutter cabinets. Its reclaimed wood may have spent 100 to 200 years in old buildings before being selected and finished for a new life.LITITZ, PA
Virgin Timber Lumber CoSince 2010, Virgin Timber Lumber Co. in southern West Virginia has been giving old Appalachian lumber new life as reclaimed-wood furniture and handcrafted wooden wall plates. The company carefully deconstructs houses and barns to salvage century-old wood originally cut from West Virginia’s virgin mountain forests, while producing its wall plates in-house and shipping them factory-direct across the country.
