Since 2010, Virgin Timber Lumber Co. in southern West Virginia has been giving old Appalachian lumber new life as reclaimed-wood furniture and handcrafted wooden wall plates. The company carefully deconstructs houses and barns to salvage century-old wood originally cut from West Virginia’s virgin mountain forests, while producing its wall plates in-house and shipping them factory-direct across the country. Its work grew from founder John Petro’s home-remodeling project into custom furniture, architectural collaborations, and thousands of wall-plate orders.
