Since 1965, Cutts & Case Shipyard has carried forward the legacy of yacht designer and builder Eddie Cutts Sr. in Oxford, Maryland, where Eddie Cutts Jr. and Ronnie Cutts now lead the yard. It is best known for preserving the character of wooden boats while applying the patented Cutts Method to custom yachts and older vessels.

• Odyssey YachtsOdyssey Yachts builds custom seagoing sailing craft, pairing metalwork and woodworking with the practical demands of offshore cruising. Founded around Brian Russell’s background as a sculptor, blacksmith, machinist, woodworker and sailor, the company began its 44-foot aluminum pilot-house cutter project in 2009 and later launched S.V. Helacious in 2016. Its workshop includes 5,000 square feet of indoor space and a covered outdoor area for building the Dix 43 Pilot House Cutter, described as its flagship yacht.REISTERSTOWN, MD

• Mathews Brothers LLCSince 1995, family-owned-and-operated Mathews Brothers has been building custom boats in Denton for Chesapeake Bay cruising, from a compact sport boat shaped by an Eastern Shore crabbing skiff to its new 51-foot flagship. Customers are invited into the build, choosing the layout and details while the shop combines traditional methods with modern composite construction. The company also keeps boats in service through repairs, refits, storage and brokerage, including dock-to-dock winter storage at Mathews Landing on the Choptank River.DENTON, MD
• Reuben Smith’s Tumblehome BoatshopReuben Smith’s Tumblehome Boatshop restores historic and classic wooden boats and builds fully custom new ones in the Southern Adirondacks. Founded by Smith in 1997 and reestablished in its current location in 2012, the shop grew from a boatbuilding family tradition into a team working from a 6,000-square-foot facility across from the Hudson River.
