Founded in 2010 by artist and woven technical designer Julie Kaminska, Fret Fabrics is a Long Island luxury design house creating fabrics for professional interiors and restoring historic textiles, wallpapers, and trims. Kaminska’s background at the Scalamandré mill informs the studio’s unusual ability to recreate period materials from archival fragments or even black-and-white photographs. Its preservation work includes collaborations with Sunnylands, the Mark Twain House, and the White House.
ScalamandréFounded by Franco and Flora Scalamandré in 1929, Scalamandré creates luxury textiles and interior furnishings, with a particular reputation for historically informed fabrics, wallcoverings and custom restoration work. Its signature Leaping Zebras design and commissions for places such as the White House reflect a company that carries an unusually deep American design archive into contemporary interiors.
