Hydroacoustics Inc. began in 1972 as a spin-off of acoustics research at Harvard University and General Dynamics, and has spent five decades developing specialized sound technology. Based in Henrietta, the company serves naval and scientific users with low-frequency underwater acoustic systems, while also adapting its patented expertise for oil recovery in mature fields. HAI has been awarded more than 50 U.S. and foreign patents.
Advanced Acoustic ConceptsFounded in 1989, Advanced Acoustic Concepts is a U.S. undersea warfare systems company that designs and delivers technology for naval warfighters. It develops sonar and combat-system capabilities and manufactures equipment including CAPTAS 4 at its Pennsylvania facility. AAC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Thales Defense & Security, Inc. operating under a U.S. Department of Defense-approved Proxy Agreement.BLUE BELL, PA
Sea-Gal Technologies IncFounded by Lehigh University professor and IEEE Fellow Yahong Rosa Zheng, Sea-Gal Technologies turns university research into fieldable underwater acoustic communication products. The Bethlehem startup develops high-data-rate MIMO modems, acoustic-system components and software, while helping integrate them with AUVs, robots and other underwater platforms. Its work recently received an Ocean Enterprise Accelerator Award for low-cost acoustic imaging focused on biofouling detection and NSF SBIR/STTR support for MIMO underwater communications.541330BETHLEHEM, PA
Oceanears / OE EnterprisesFounded in 1991 by ocean engineer Ed Harper, North Canton’s O.E. Enterprises makes American-made underwater speakers and sound systems for diver communication, safety, synchronized swimming and aquatic research. Its equipment has supplied synchronized-swimming sound at the Atlanta, Beijing and Rio Olympic Games, while its U.S. Navy-approved diver signaling devices serve military and security applications. The small company also builds custom systems, including portable units for teams and pool installations.NORTH CANTON, OH
Lubell Labs IncBorn from Alan H. Lubell’s 1968 patent for a broadband piezoelectric underwater loudspeaker, Lubell Labs has manufactured underwater loudspeakers and acoustic transducers in Columbus since 1969. Its rugged speakers serve swimming programs, diver-communication systems, research facilities and unusual settings ranging from NASA neutral-buoyancy labs to major underwater film productions. The LL916C was selected for the Sydney 2000 and London 2012 Olympic Games, while the company’s installed 9484 remains a familiar fixture in collegiate and high-school pools.COLUMBUS, OH
