Born from Alan H. Lubell’s 1968 patent for a broadband piezoelectric underwater loudspeaker, Lubell Labs has manufactured underwater loudspeakers and acoustic transducers in Columbus since 1969. Its rugged speakers serve swimming programs, diver-communication systems, research facilities and unusual settings ranging from NASA neutral-buoyancy labs to major underwater film productions. The LL916C was selected for the Sydney 2000 and London 2012 Olympic Games, while the company’s installed 9484 remains a familiar fixture in collegiate and high-school pools.
