Self-taught artist Lotta Jansdotter has been building her distinctive Scandinavian design practice since 1996, drawing on the natural forms and everyday details she encounters on Åland, where she lives and works. Her hands-on process has produced limited-edition textiles and original artwork, while also shaping a teaching practice that brings makers together in workshops and retreats. She is the author of twelve lifestyle, travel and sewing books and has collaborated with makers, museums and brands around the world.
Pam Pawl TextilesFrom her Dunedin studio, artist and textile educator Pam Pawl creates limited-edition handwoven scarves, wraps, throws and interior accessories, using hand-dyed yarns and multi-harness loom structures to bring color and pattern together. Pawl’s textile practice grew from a farm upbringing with sheep and a spinning wheel, formal study in textile design, and more than a decade maintaining a Philadelphia weaving studio. The Endless ThreadThe Endless Thread is Linda Sturgeon’s Putney studio for hand-crafted fiber-art clothing, including crocheted dresses, jackets and tops. Her work grew from making crocheted shopping baskets with postal and baling twine in the 1970s, then evolved into clothing after she taught herself to dye industrial cordage and began showing her designs at juried craft shows and galleries. Merida StudioMerida Studio creates original rugs and textile artwork entirely in-house at its Fall River workshop, where designers, weavers, and craftspeople turn natural fibers into made-to-order pieces. Since 2017, the studio has collaborated with Paris-based artist and weaver Sylvie Johnson through a nine-year artist residency that produced its limited-edition Atelier series. Her background as chief embroiderer for Moscow couture maison Ulyana Sergeenko informs collections that explore cross-cultural references, comparative ideas of beauty, and color.
