Since its 1952 founding, Ohio Valley Electric Corporation has remained a distinctive Ohio River Valley power company, created by investor-owned utilities to serve the Atomic Energy Commission’s uranium-enrichment facilities near Portsmouth. Today, OVEC generates electricity for its sponsoring utilities and their customers from long-running stations in Ohio and Indiana, while its Piketon headquarters has housed the system office since 1954.
