BARNAGARDBorn from Dr. Reed Phillips’s effort to protect an ocean-wave electricity generator from barnacles, BARNAGARD develops patented, environmentally friendly coatings that prevent biofouling on submerged marine and freshwater surfaces. Its two-layer polymer technology is designed to repel attaching organisms while protecting against those that break through, with applications ranging from boat hulls to docks and other infrastructure. The company says its coatings are designed for at least five years of service and do not leach active agents into surrounding water.
Tesla NanoCoatingsFounded in 2005 by petroleum engineer Todd Hawkins, Massillon-based Tesla NanoCoatings manufactures TESLAN® carbon-nanotube protective coatings for steel assets in offshore, marine and midstream environments. Its patented CNT technology enables a two-coat, wet-on-wet system designed to replace conventional three-coat applications, and more than 1.5 million square feet of Gulf of Mexico assets were protected with TESLAN® by early 2023 without recorded coating replacements.
