Founded in 2016 through a collaboration between UMBC engineering researchers and Johns Hopkins sleep physicians, Tanzen Medical develops remote-monitoring technology for diagnosing and managing sleep movement disorders. Its RestEaze system combines an ankle-worn sensor, mobile app, and cloud analytics to characterize leg movements across multiple nights at home rather than relying only on a single in-lab study. Tanzen has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for RestEaze and has sold the system in limited quantities for sleep research.
