Terrament, based in Los Angeles and New York, is developing patented long-duration energy storage that uses underutilized mine shafts to store electricity through gravity. Founded by a former underground mine engineer and a technical entrepreneur, the company’s design combines a mile of vertical height with shaft-wall-mounted rails and avoids chemical batteries or critical minerals. Its research-backed system is projected to exceed 80% round-trip efficiency, with two U.S. patents granted and further patents pending.
