Born from a homemade birthday celebration for their grandmother in 2008, The Best Goodie Bag is a family-owned Valley Stream cakery making custom cakes and desserts from scratch. Four self-taught women—three of them daughters and relatives working alongside retired NYPD Sergeant Darlene Edwards—built the business from a home kitchen before opening their custom cakery and sweet shop in October 2019. The shop has also appeared on Netflix’s “Sugar Rush Christmas,” bringing its family-centered baking story to a wider audience.

• Capital City Cakes & Sweet TreatsFor more than 30 years, Sue Baisden has turned her baking and decorating work into Capital City Cakes & Sweet Treats, a family-owned-and-operated Grove City bakery known for specialty cakes, fresh baked goods and handcrafted buttercream. Sue and her husband Gary opened the first shop in 2009, later moving to Grove City in 2012, where the team creates made-to-order wedding and celebration cakes with distinctive designs.
