Ducted Wind Turbines, IncFounded in 2016 through the NEXUS-NY energy incubator, Ducted Wind Turbines develops and builds small distributed wind turbines in Potsdam, New York. Its D3 turbine uses a ducted design licensed from Clarkson University, where the company’s technical work began, to produce more energy than a conventional open-rotor turbine of the same size. DWT has installed units at farms, campuses, and commercial sites across Upstate New York and has shipped one to the United Kingdom.POTSDAM, NY
WindStax EnergyFrom Pittsburgh, WindStax Energy designs and manufactures large vertical-axis wind turbines and integrated wind-and-solar microgrids for commercial and industrial sites. Installing renewable-energy systems since 2011, the company handles projects in-house from fabrication through installation and service, with systems ranging from individual buildings to community-scale microgrids. Its turbines have logged more than one million operating hours in the field and are built to order for each project.PITTSBURGH, PA
Bahari EnergyBahari Energy, incorporated in 2009, develops and manufactures compact wind towers that use a windcatcher-inspired design to generate renewable electricity in urban settings. Founded by aerospace engineer Habib Bahari, the company combines architectural ideas drawn from the Persian baadgir with ducted turbines and has tested its concept with a one-eighth-scale prototype. Its work is aimed at bringing distributed wind power to places where conventional exposed-blade turbines are difficult to use.GAITHERSBURG, MD
Aerovec, IncAerovec, Inc. is developing a compact, integrated portable wind turbine for dependable renewable power in remote locations, temporary deployments and small communities. Its design combines a patented rotor-and-blade mechanism with a tilt-up tower and containerized portability, and is intended to work alongside solar and storage when sunlight is unavailable. Aerovec installed its first prototype in Rushford, New York, in June 2024 after two years of design simulation.EDEN, NY
