Founded as a hobby between friends, 6 Mile Cellars grew into a winery in Lake Erie wine country that produced award-winning wines for more than 14 years. Patrick and Angela Walsh have closed the winery as of 2026, choosing to focus on their cider program at Snappy’s Taphouse in Pittsburgh.
Hanover WineryWhat began as Eddie and Beth McDonald’s decade-long winemaking passion became Butler County’s first winery when Hanover Winery opened in 2009 on their rural Hanover Township farm. The couple turned a hobby shed into a tasting room and grew the property into a vineyard and wine-production operation known for more than two dozen award-winning wines, with wood-fired pizza added in 2023. Yellow Butterfly WineryYellow Butterfly Winery makes nearly two dozen sweet fruit, semi-sweet and dry wines in a restored, more-than-125-year-old barn on a Midwestern Ohio farm and cattle ranch. Now owned by Krissy and Ed Haas, the winery pairs its bottles with a rural gathering place where visitors can listen to live music, watch alpacas graze and browse work by local artists. Calvaresi WineryCalvaresi Winery produced quality small-batch wines in Bernville, Pennsylvania, growing from Tom Calvaresi’s 1981 home winery in a Reading row house into a destination on the Berks County Wine Trail. After Shannon Birosik acquired the winery in 2014, it continued as a family business under the Soaked Wines brand, known for award-winning wines and a casual country setting.
