Led by ocularist Timothy Friel, who began training in 1983 and has practiced privately since 1989, the Center for Ocular Reconstruction creates individually fitted artificial eyes and other ocular prostheses. With offices at Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute and in Bethesda, the center combines patient-specific fabrication with patented work aimed at making computer-generated prostheses more accurate and reproducible. Friel holds advanced and board certifications in ocularistry and has contributed to the field through multiple patents and professional leadership.
