Founded by Jason Fox in 2013, Never Stop Building is a Mercer, Maine design-build studio creating furniture, timber frames and architectural woodwork through traditional Japanese woodworking techniques. Fox’s background in machining, engineering and computer-aided design meets a deep respect for trees, with projects shaped by careful material selection, precise joinery and predominantly Japanese hand tools. The studio also passes those methods on through woodworking classes and timber-frame workshops.

• Thornbury Wood Design BuildDave Cloud, a lifelong woodworker and former Boeing manufacturing technology leader, founded Thornbury Wood Design Build in 2015 after more than four decades in furniture design and construction. Working from the New Hope area of Bucks County, Cloud creates individualized furnishings shaped by careful material selection and a blend of traditional craft with aerospace-informed technical experience.   George Nakashima WoodworkersFounded by George Nakashima in 1945, this New Hope studio makes one-of-a-kind, made-to-order furniture from individually selected solid-wood boards. The workshop continues Nakashima’s distinctive through-and-through milling tradition, preserving natural edges and irregularities while designers and craftspeople collaborate under the direction of his daughter, Mira Nakashima. • Vicco von Voss Furniture DesignSince 1994, German-born artist and craftsman Vicco von Voss has worked on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, turning locally salvaged and fallen trees into one-of-a-kind contemporary furniture. After studying fine art at Washington College and completing a three-year carpentry apprenticeship in Hamburg, von Voss developed a practice that pairs traditional joinery with designs shaped by each log’s natural curves. His workshop also takes on timber framing and public art, including the Woodhenge project at Adkins Arboretum.CHESTERTOWN, MD
• H.CO HandmadeFrom a five-acre Hudson Valley homestead, Max and Jordan Hoener run H.CO Handmade, a family-owned design-and-build firm making handcrafted furniture from locally sourced wood. The Millbrook studio combines clean modern design with Japanese woodworking and traditional joinery, often turning storm-fallen or client-saved trees into “Full Circle” pieces. H.CO was named Best Furniture Maker in the Hudson Valley by the 2025 Chronogram Readers’ Choice Awards.
