Founded in 1998 after Dick Sanford saw children waiting for a school bus without coats on a freezing day, Operation Warm is a national nonprofit built around the belief that new clothing can restore a child’s confidence as well as provide basic protection. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2002, it works through community partners to place brand-new coats and shoes with children facing poverty, serving more than 7 million children to date.

We Care BlanketsFounded by Tamara Baker in 2000 after her own medical journey, We Care Blankets makes handcrafted blankets for children undergoing cancer treatment and other serious illnesses. The not-for-profit organization grew from Baker’s solo effort into a volunteer network whose blankets are wrapped and delivered to hospitals across the United States and, more recently, to a children’s hospital in Israel. Its central kitchen prepares about 5,000 nutritious, affordable meals each day for community agencies serving people affected by poverty, while its dual mission includes food-service job training for adults facing barriers to employment.
