Founded in 1984 by two structural engineers, STS Steel fabricates structural steel and plate for complex buildings, bridges, hydraulic structures and other demanding projects. The Schenectady company works from a 62,000-square-foot former American Locomotive Company heavy-fabrication shop and has grown to more than 60 employees, shipping pieces that require substantial lifting capacity and exacting tolerances. STS became 100% employee-owned through an ESOP established in 2009 and holds AISC certifications covering building structures, advanced bridges and hydraulic steel structures.
