Since 1910, Yonah Schimmel Knish Bakery has baked hand-rolled, old-world knishes at its original Lower East Side location, carrying on a tradition that began with Yonah Schimmel’s Coney Island pushcart in 1890. Still owned by Yonah’s great-nephew, the family business is described as Manhattan’s last remaining knish bakery and one of the Lower East Side’s enduring Jewish food landmarks. Its baked knishes, including the classic potato and family-recipe kasha versions, are also shipped throughout the continental United States.
