Founded in 1910 as a privately owned family company, Ellwood Crankshaft Group makes forged and machined crankshafts and other large complex components at its Pennsylvania facilities. Its Hermitage and Sharon operations can machine parts up to 480 inches long and 80,000 pounds, while the Irvine facility has forged crankshafts since 1960 and produces more than 5,000 engine crankshafts annually. ECG also reconditions crankshafts and holds ISO 9001 certification, supporting critical marine, locomotive, and power-generation equipment.

• NSI Crankshaft LLCEstablished in 2008 after acquiring Norton Manufacturing, Fostoria-based NSI Crankshaft makes precision-machined crankshafts for original-equipment engine, pump, and compressor makers. Its unusual strength is complete vertical integration: NSI handles the work from steelmaking and forging through machining and heat treatment in its 205,000-square-foot facility, while its engineers help develop new crankshaft designs and materials. • Ellwood City Forge GroupFounded by brothers David and Jonathan Evans in 1910, Ellwood City Forge Group makes large open-die forgings and takes many of them from steelmaking through heat treatment and machining at its western Pennsylvania facilities. The company’s two forging plants produce custom components weighing up to 70,000 pounds and stretching 57 feet, with particular experience in demanding applications such as fluid-end blocks for oil and gas.
