Hot Wheelz Solar Racing is RIT’s student-run team for designing and building solar-powered race cars. Founded in 2012 by female engineering students, the team has evolved from electric dragster and Formula SAE competitions to the Formula Sun Grand Prix, where it builds practical experience across engineering, business, and outreach. Its members manufacture key vehicle structures and components in-house while preparing for cross-country American Solar Challenge competition.
RIT RacingFounded at Rochester Institute of Technology in 1991, RIT Racing is a student-built Formula SAE program known for passing engineering knowledge from one generation of members to the next. More than 60 active students now carry that tradition into electric-car competition, where the team earned its first FSAE Michigan championship in 2024 and followed with overall wins in Pittsburgh and Toronto in 2025.
Terps RacingSince 1982, Terps Racing has been a University of Maryland student-run program that designs, builds, tests and races formula-style and Baja off-road vehicles for collegiate competitions. More than 120 students work across its internal-combustion, electric and Baja teams, gaining hands-on experience in a dedicated machine shop and assembly space. Bearcats RacingBearcats Racing is the University of Cincinnati’s student-run SAE racing program, designing and building formula, Baja, and electric racecars for national collegiate competition.
