Old State Farms makes pure maple syrup and maple specialties from wild-grown hard maple trees in the Appalachian mountains of northwest Pennsylvania. What began in 2001 with a couple tapping 20 trees on the husband’s parents’ farm has grown into a family operation with 3,500 taps, producing about 1,500 gallons of syrup each spring. The farm uses sustainable harvesting practices, including woodland tubing that reduces damage to forest soils, and its maple syrup reaches customers across the country.
